“The tribal apex body of Mishmi community, the Cultural and Literary Society of Mishmi (CALSOM) has launched effective campaign in promoting growth of cash crops instead of opium,” he tells the villagers.
But what had lacked in such endeavor is the flaccid role of government departments. “Because of difficult living conditions and hostile environment, government officials are shying away,” says Miso. “So practically there are no government offices that are functioning here.”
To correct such practices, the young leader now wants to create conducive atmosphere for government officials to make them feel part of this region. On the starting day of the tour programme at Hunli he had appealed the public to have warm and cordial relation with government officials.
Head of government departments accompanying the panchayat leaders also interacted with the locals. On improving medical services, Dr D Rattan, Medical Officer, Hunli encouraged local women to enroll themselves for ANM courses. This will enable them for job opportunities as well give them a chance to serve their people.
Speaking about different schemes available at Block Development Office, Angete Linggi, BDO informed that the department has no shortage of funds. But what was required was proper implementation of schemes as well furnishing of proper completion report.
On development of agriculture sector, K Kamduk, Agriculture Development Officer (ADO), Desali admitted there was lack of information being made available to locals. He encouraged the people to avail subsidized loans offered from the department and assured to offer all help.
Scarcity of drinking water was also one issue that surfaced during the visit. In Desali people faced drinking water shortages in winter due to drying up of sources. The panchayat leaders therefore felt the need for a comprehensive plan to address such crisis.

Arunachal’s land encroached immediatelyafter visit of Local Boundary Commission
ITANAGAR, Nov 18: Land encroachment in Taraso area after the visit of the local commission team headed by justice (retd) Tarun Chatterjee there on November 12 last intensified, and about 400 people from Assam were identified as encroachers to the dismay of a team of representatives of the ANSU, APPDSU, AKKDSU and Jote Youth Association led by AAPSU president Kamta Lapung, who said he “resisted the visiting team today.”
This is clear violation of the Supreme Court directive to maintain status quo. Therefore, the encroachment by the people of Assam should be brought to the attention of the local commission appointed by the apex court to study the contentious issue and submit a report, Lapung suggested to the GoAP in a statement.
Demanding immediate eviction of the encroachers on behalf of the organisations, he called upon the GoAP for immediate deployment of adequate police personnel for the security of life and properties of the locals; establishment of an IRBn battalion HQ there; streamlining of directorate of border affairs; issuing a directive to all district administrations to strictly monitor such activities along all interstate boundary areas to prevent encroachment; and grant of gun licenses to responsible citizens of the boundary areas as repeated illegal activities by people from across the boundary have created a fear psychosis among them.
AAPSU wants proper monitoringof activities of refugees
ITANAGAR, Nov 18: The All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) today said that "improper monitoring" of the activities of refugees, particularly Tibetans residing in Tawang and West Kameng districts, "pose a great threat to the tribal people of the state and the country".

"The village has become a safe haven for the Tibetans. Many of them have obtained fake ST and permanent residential certificates," AAPSU information and publicity secretary Lota Singhi claimed. He suggested the refugees with fake ST/PRCs to surrender and seek apology from the people of state.
“The political leaders of both the districts, particularly of Tawang should come out openly against the "wrongdoings of refugees instead of looking for vote banks. The refugees residing at Shyo village are even trying to contest in elections of district students union which is highly condemnable,” the AAPSU release said.
The team also visited Bumla near the Line of Control between India and China and found acute shortage of infrastructure in terms of roads and buildings on the Indian side compared to the Chinese side.
It demanded that the state government pressurize the Centre to start constructing border roads in the state, particularly in the West Kameng and Tawang sectors, saying the condition of the road to Bumla is such that one cannot even drive a light vehicle on it.

The dry winter months are here again. The greatest threat that poses to Arunachal
Pradesh is not China or any other external aggressions but the most common and the
most useful thing, the ‘Fire. ’ Yes, fire accidents are dangerously too frequent
in our state, especially in the dry winter months. We have been witnesses to horrific
fire accidents in different parts of Arunachal. My birthplace Kaimai village in Tirap
district has been devastated by major fire accidents several times during my life
time. There are still many other horrific tales of fire accidents that devoured my
village before I was born. Fortunately, for my villagers, there has been no heavy
human casualty in any of these accidents. The reason being our houses are made of
bamboo, mostly, and it’s always easy to escape. However, it’s the bamboo and the
toko leaves that help spread fire fast in most of the Arunachali villages as these
are highly inflammable. The unplanned way of house construction and clustered thatched
houses only compound the problems. Fire tenders are hardly heard of in the villages.

TAWANG, Nov 18: Thousands of Buddhist devotees from across the district lined up near the Galden Namgyal Lhatse popularly known as the Tawang Monastery to get a glimpse of the sacred relics of Lord Buddha.
The Buddhist Town of Tawang wore a religious look as the locals in traditional attire lined up from Shyo village to the entrance of the monastery with khadas and incense to get the blessings/view of the relics.
Almost 8,000 people from different villages of the district had a glimpse of the relics on the first day.

CM advocates for empowerment of PRIs

Tuki strongly advocated for empowerment of Panchayati Raj institutions (PRIs) and disclosed that the Government is doing all out effort to devolve remaining power and functions to the PRI at the earliest.

Act before it’s too late
In a shocking incident few days ago at Naharlagun town, some hawkers tried to molest and kidnap a housemaid and minor girl while pretending to be selling household items. Due to the timely intervention of Naharlagun police the two girls were saved. This incident is a warning sign of impending danger. The capital district administration should check large scale migration of illegal immigrants into the state. In the past numerous incidents of migrant workers indulging in criminal activities has been reported from capital complex.
Need of the hour is to ensure strict implementation of ILP in various check gates. The police posted at Banderdewa, Hollongi and Gumto check gates should be issued order to ensure proper checking of ILP. Such move will deter the illegal migrant from entering state. Meanwhile reacting to Naharlagun incident, the members of All Papum Pare District Students Union (APPDSU) has called upon the state govt to impose a blanket ban on entry of any type of hawkers in the state including twin capital complex. This demand need serious thought by the concern authorities.

Dear Editor,
Through your esteemed column, I would like to bring into light the recent scuffle over syllabus of B.Com & B.Sc courses. First of all, kudos to the students who have written such a long letter to the editor (almost half a page of the daily), their mastery over the language is really appreciable. I wonder if they have such grasp over language, why do they feel disturbed by the new syllabus, rather they should feel blessed that they can use their skill in writing the answers.
Everything deserves a change, but when the time comes people get scared of the impending changes. It is a baseless allegation that Compulsory Paper should contain only Grammar and Essays. As it is a known fact that we all went through Grammar and Essays since our primary schooling days, a standard piece of literature such as Shakespeare gives us a breathing space. BUGS while designing the Syllabus might have thought that Shakespeare’s “As you Like it” would relieve the students and provide pleasure along with their regular studies.
This trivial issue is being blown out of proportions with the allegations and counter allegations. The Lecturers of the affected students and authorities at RGU should chalk out a solution “together” for the matter and not turn it into some newspaper fight. Make us free of your daily nuisance, which takes up the important space for the people to share their grievances.
